Into the Hourglass by Emily R. King

Into the Hourglass (The Evermore Chronicles, #2)

by Emily R. King

In the second book in The Evermore Chronicles by Emily R. King, Everley Donovan plunges into the roiling waves of a strange new world to hunt a wicked prince who cheated time.

Everley Donovan’s mission: retrieve the hallowed sword of Avelyn stolen by the wicked Prince Killian, who slayed her family and left her for dead. Should she fail, the seven worlds will come to an end, as could time itself. And no one treasures time more than Everley, whose lifesaving clock heart cannot beat forever. She has set sail with a rogue crew for the otherworlds, where the key to dethroning the prince lies deep within the Land Under the Wave.

But passage through these unknown seas—where horrors lurk and pirates rove—proves a treacherous gamble. The Land Under the Wave was not made for humans, particularly one with a fragile clock heart. Here, Everley’s tragic past resurfaces unsolved questions. Here, too, the prince has hidden secrets more precious than pearls, secrets that could fracture the future forevermore. Everley must take back her sword and break free from this watery world before her time runs out…or so will everyone else’s.

My thoughts 3.5 Stars

Everley is continuing to chase after Prince Killian. She’s out to get revenge and to retrieve the sword of Avelyn. This time she will journey to different lands. She discovers more secrets. Everly is in denial with her feelings for her husband. She continues to tell herself that a clock heart cannot love. She also learns how her ticker was created and how it gives her life. You will also find out why her ticker is slowly losing its “life”.
Killian is not my favorite. He’s seems to always two steps in front of Everley. You do learn more about him and his background. He’s very mischievous and evil. I always have a love hate relationship with Killian.
Jamison is Everley’s husband. Jamison and Everley’s relationship start to grow more in this story and honestly, it’s the cutest thing in the world. The affection they have for each other bloom’s and they learn more about each other.

So many new characters in this story. Radella is a sassy little pixie that helps Everly throughout the story. She has this fun little way of herself that I adore. Her character makes me laugh from time to time. Merrows aka Mermaids are not someone I would like to cross. I love mermaids but they do not like humans. I will say that the merrow king will do anything for his kids. Some other characters are the giant whale is one of me least liked characters. He’s very odd and jumps to conclusions before the explanation. Elves are not the nicest people either. They turn of Everly and soon chase her. A sea hag! She is a very interesting person. She’s human but has lived for hundreds of years by “helping” people in return she wants a section of your life. She has “helped” very many people, which is talked about because of the wall of names. You will learn more about it in the story. Just a few more to name are pirates and giants.

I really enjoyed this book. I look forward to finding out what happens next for Everly and Killian. I’m hopping she will find peace and love with Jamison.
