I must admit I didn't give this 5 stars but that is only because it took a while for the book and Nina the main character to care, once Nina cared about Noah and properly noticed him then I was hooked.
I loved everything about Nina, she is a normal girl, loves food and tattoos, (when I can I meet her) she doesn't care what people think about her (I know contradiction of the previous sentence!) yet with insecurities. I loved her fashion and her hair (at the end of the book the author puts links to her vintage fashion!). Nina wants to find her own Heathcliff, she is obsessed with the book and the Bronte sisters. She wants passion, she wants to be loved and it to be wild and wants nothing less than that. In walks Noah, everything she does not want in a man, and what are all the notes he keeps writing on his iPad about her! But something at the back of her mind is bugging her...where does she know him from??
Nina spends her days reading books in the shop, swiping on HookUpp app on men (sound familiar) and going on really bad dates with random men. She just wants to be loved and like a lot of girls, she loves a bad boy who will just break your heart. Throughout the book, we do have real growth in Nina's character, as she understands passion is not just about how you look but the person. She takes on more with the shop to make people care and drum up business. I love the references to Instagram and Twitter, as still being relatively new to blogging, I understood the excitement of the likes on posts and trying to build followers and interest. In fact, reading this book makes me want to learn more and buy my own bookshop - mad I know but I love the idea and the hard work all three girls and Tom put into the shop, this dream is all down to the writing by the author.
When Nina gives Noah a chance it was so lovely to see her relax and see past the "nerd" in him. Their dates were so much fun to read until he took her to her dream location of Wuthering Heights. They had such a fantastic evening together until the next morning when Nina's phone rung and Noah saw it..... this is when it all changed. Oh, Nina!! I was so annoyed with the pair of them and really not impressed with their behaviour! Everything could have been avoided so much earlier, but what I loved about this, is that this would happen in an everyday walk of life. So many times things could have been avoided if everyone was honest at the beginning. It may have already happened to you or someone you know so I loved all the realism in the book.
This was the 3rd book in the Lonely Hearts Bookshop series, which I did not know when I picked it up to read, but you do not need to read the other books to know what is happening. However, I will be buying the first two books about Posy (the bookshop owner) and Verity aka Very (co-worker and flatmate) as both of them sound like fun books too and I adored all the flawed characters. The read is nice and easy and has such a nice flow to make the book a quick finish too, definitely one a nice sunny day - which I did. I just hope there are more books to follow
