Kait lives on the island of Shapinsay where tales of the selkie are everywhere, but she has her doubts about the rumors of them being dangerous. Then a selkie man comes to visit her and she's immediately enchanted by him. His lure is too strong and soon she finds herself wanting to spend her life with this man of the sea. Kait puts her life at risk several times to find her selkie man, and soon her sanity starts slipping without him. She wants nothing more than to capture him, so he'll remain with her on the land.
This book is a fabulous mix of historical and paranormal romance, two genres I love. I also loved how the romance was between two lovers who aren't suppose to be together, but give it their all to try anyway. Kait is very headstrong, and once she made up her mind about wanting Eamon, nothing was able to stop her. Eamon (as Kait named him) is extremely curious about Kait who shows no fear of the sea like the other island residents. He tries to stay away, but in the end he's completely drawn to her.
Their romance becomes more and more tragic as we learn more about the selkies. Kait and Eamon are both extremely stubborn and it seems like their love is going to end in tragedy if neither of them will budge. Kait fears him leaving her, but she also wants him to be free to do as he pleases. Eamon is too proud and honor bound to aknowledge his weakness that is all too obvious to Kait, and it just might kill him.
This is a fantastic and original romance, and I'm so glad the author contacted me to review it. If you're a fan of historical and paranormal romances, or enjoy tales of starcrossed lover, then I don't suggest missing out on this one!
