After reading the prequel Burning, which is just enough to wet your appetite for this series, i was dying to get my hands on the first book in this thrill hunger games type dystopian series.
This book centers around children of main characters who are getting ready to take their tests to decided if they will be joining the ranks of bound or unbound. Bound are the ones deemed to mange everything in Askala. While the unbound are sterilized and basically do nothing to improve Askala.
Before the characters take the test a new character is introduced to the mix. Wren is a remnant tossing about in the ocean and if she can make it to shore then she can take part in the proving and become either an bound or unbound.
This book is about the next generation those who are going to take over for their parents. Those who have want their wholes to be bound and to spend the lives with those they feel they are destined to be with. Adding a remnant into the mix really throws the whole story on its head.
Will she be allowed to really take those tests? What if she passes and becomes bound? Not to mention what if she really cares about these people? Will she turn her back on them if someone from her life before makes it across the ocean? This story is a real nail biter and i can not wait to see what happens in the next book.
