The Earl of London by Louise Bay

The Earl of London (The Royals)

by Louise Bay

Love left me of its to-do list.

I date. I’m all for giving guys a chance. I’ve just never met the one.

Until on a spring morning in the English countryside, a tall, dark stranger emerges from the mist. Logan Steele is all tousled hair, hard chest and lips so perfect I want to reach out and touch them just to check they’re real. I’m sure that’s a thunderclap of chemistry I feel between us.

Did I mention he’s an Earl with a self-made fortune?

A billionaire who works tirelessly for charity?

And he’s so hot, watching him is like staring at the sun.

But like I said, love isn’t rooting for me.

When I find out Logan Steele is out to destroy everything I’ve dedicated my life to protect, the chemistry disappears and the hope that had blossomed my chest turns to rage.

It no longer matters that he quickens my pulse just saying my name, weakens my knees with a single touch and that he might just be the greatest kisser that ever lived.

I might believe in love but Logan Steele is definitely not the one.

Arrogant and pompous…just the way I love them

Louise Bay manages to take parts of my favourite historical romance heroes and bring them to the now. I’m a little bit of a sucker for a hero who has the stoic outward façade that hides his gooey insides. Sure, the gooey inside takes a long time to get to because the outside is hard, brittle and multi-layered but it's so worth the effort. The words, feelings and actions of the heroes are sigh-worthy and make my heart flutter. They may be arrogant and pompous but they're also bossy, intriguing and very sexy.

So, I’m telling you that Louise Bay writes a brilliant historical romance set in a modern-day setting. How ironic is it then that the heroine’s name is Darcy? I had to keep reminding myself that Colin Firth wasn’t walking through the fields looking for his Elizabeth. This Darcy, well she loves a good romp in the fields. Low and behold, while romping the good romp, she falls face first in the mud right in front of a good-looking man. Darcy can't believe that this good-looking man dares to romp at the same time in the same place as her romp...the nerve.

Logan is walking the fields of his newly acquired estate when he comes across an intruder covered in mud. With quick thinking, Logan manages to catch the woman’s horse before it does a runner. This woman is not his usual type, too short and curvy, but there’s something tempting about her. Logan is interested in her in an *I wonder if she follows instructions in the bedroom* way. Unfortunately, it seems that she couldn’t give two figs about him. First time for everything….

Darcy is an intelligent, strong-minded and determined young woman who is scared to fall in love with someone who could leave her. Logan is a handsome, smooth-talking and successful man who is scared to fall in love with someone who could become dependent on him. You guessed it…their families messed with their minds. It’s going to take a wee bit of soul-searching and some help from family and friends for them to see that love is worth the risk.

I found The Earl of London thoroughly entertaining. The characters were interesting, the storyline kept my attention and the sexy times were HOT!! There’s a little bit of angst spread throughout the story and I was convinced that Logan was about to ruin it all. Luckily for him, he got his head screwed on in time and managed to only get a squinty eye instead of a death glare from me. Darcy very nearly threw it all away for a pleather wearing Elvis but was saved by the bell in the nick of time. Elvis was hot (literally) but he definitely isn't Logan.

I absolutely love this series (that’s not really a series) and highly recommend The Earl of London. Each of the books can be read as a standalone but some of the characters pop up in each other’s books. I’m pretty sure I started with The King of Wall Street but if you were to pick one book to read ahead of The Earl of London, I’d probably go for The Duke of Manhattan because the Duke is Darcy’s brother. Mind you, they’re all bloody good so read them all. Then you can come back to me to thank me, so I can tell you “I told you so…”

I'm kinda hoping Aurora will get her own HEA...pretty please with sugar on the top.
