I preordered Red Queen when it was coming out, but I never got around to reading it. Over time I started to hear a lot of mixed reviews. I heard a lot of people say this book wasn't original and had tons of typical tropes and was unoriginal, and it made me kind of unsure if wanted to read it. However, I had already received the second book because I decided to preordered it, and so I was like "I will read this series when it's completed." And it worked out because after the last book came out, I was actually in the mood to check it out!

Honestly, going into this book I didn't know too much and I had low expectations. But I loved it! I mean, I can kind of see a little bit of what people are saying, but it doesn't bother me. It was different than I thought it was going to be, but I think that made it more fun.

Everyone seems to love Cal, but at this point, while I like him, I'm not in love with him just yet. When we first meet him I definitely can see why people love him, but after that, he seems like a different person. You can see he cares about Mare in some way, but I think he cares too much about other things right now. Maven was who I was rooting for most of this book because he seemed to really care about Mare, but those feelings quickly changed.

I can't wait to see where this story goes and how the characters change.
