The Cricket on the Hearth is a novella published in 1845. One of Dickens's Christmas books, it is a story about relationships and how they are affected by such emotions as love and egotism. It centers on John and his young wife Dot, whom he suspects of having an affair. A cricket, believed to be a symbol of good luck, works as a cementing factor between the couple.
De las historias que he leído últimamente de Charles Dickens ésta es la que más me ha gustado. Incluso más que a Un cuento de Navidad. El grillo del hogar ha sido una lectura sencilla pero tan bonita, encantadora y poética. Con personajes adorables y muy bien caracterizados. Me he emocionado tanto leyéndola y hasta lloré de alegría con el final. Todos deberían leerla, en serio.
