I received this book for free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

The cover is gorgeous, and the description sounded so good! Unfortunately I just couldn't click with the book or the characters. There were a lot of slow bits in the beginning of the book. Some of it was interesting and I read those parts quickly. And then there would be more bits to slog through.

I don't understand why, if her father loved her so much that he didn't kill her like he was supposed to at birth. And hid her away from the public to keep her safe, and pretty much did everything a loving father should, why he never named his Redwing daughter. Her twin? Oh she gets a name, she gets to do everything her sister can't. But the Redwing twin? No name for her.

And for all that the unnamed twin was supposed to be in hiding so the priests wouldn't find and kill her, Jey, her twin, was constantly getting her to leave the safety of their house. To pretend to be her and do Jey's job whenever she didn't want to do it so she could do something else. It made it feel like Jey didn't care if her sister was caught and killed.

I did like how the unnamed twin discovered her abilities. And the secret behind the red scars on her back. Her crush on the prince was believable, though I liked the newspaper owner's brother better. I wasn't able to really connect with any of the characters though. I liked the unnamed twin at first, but there were so many slow spots for me, and some of the things done in the book were just so unbelievable that by the end of the book I was just glad it was over.
