Jess and her partner, John Brittain, have been in Paris for three months, while Jess’s brother, Regent is on assignment for the Vatican. During their stay, Jess & Regent have met a sister they never knew they had. Britt & Jess and helped with a serial murder case and all have discovered a dark and sinister plot unfolding right in Paris. Ravens, vampire traps, secret societies, strange texts… can they solve it before it’s too late?

It was good to be back in Paris with Jess, Britt and Regent. This was an exciting installment as we learned more about the Raven, the book, Vlad, Jess’s sister and her adopted father. There is a mix of religion and lore weaved into this tale and I loved the good vs evil with a twist that the author delivered.

Another girl is murdered in the tomes, the city police are replaced and Regent soon finds himself in trouble before things come to a head. Gardiner weaved in characters from Jess & Britt’s past, making me wish I had read the Jess Vandermire series, but it was explained and quite clever.

This was a fast-paced, light paranormal with a nice mystery, plenty of suspense and interesting characters to keep you flipping the pages.

An addictive tale that wrapped up nicely while leaving room for more encounters with Paris friends. It looks like Jess, Britt and Regent are headed back to New York and trouble awaits them. This review was originally posted at Caffeinated Reviewer
