Married with Zombies is about as dissimilar to My Life as a White Trash Zombie as you can get, I suppose, almost as if they reside at opposite ends of the zombie spectrum. I think my preference lies more with My Life as a White Trash Zombie. Of course, I think I have yet to read a true zombie horror story; Married with Zombies is too funny to count as horror. Though I think I might be extra careful around therapists from now on.
What I appreciated about Married with Zombies is that the romance features an established couple — a couple who is having some serious relationship troubles. Since I don’t normally read books that start out with established couples (not counting books that fall after the first book in a series), this aspect was new and refreshing. I mean, hey — who hasn’t bickered with her (or his) significant other at one point in time? The progression of their relationship is incredibly realistic and it worked against the backdrop of a zombie infestation.
Married with Zombies was a quick read (well, it would have been quick had I felt up to reading for longer than a hour at a time) that is littered with swearing (in a completely good way) and seriously hilarious blurbs at the beginning of each chapter. If you’re looking for a laugh, this is it.
