The book starts off with the prologue being about the funeral of Elizabeth Holland and is very vague about what had happen. Then the book goes back and goes through all the events leading up to her death. There is the feel of a mystery because you find yourself constantly trying to figure out what happened or even who did it. And there is so much drama and secrets, you can help but to side with someone and point fingers at another.
Elizabeth is definitely my favorite character because she does what she needs to do, but she is also able to live and do what she wants without making herself look bad. Carrying on a secret relationship then being forced into marrying someone else. I don’t know how she was able to keep her cool. And that “best friend” of hers, Penelope. She was definitely a fun character and added a lot to the story, but she really irritated me sometimes. She is the girl that pretends to be your friend so she can learn all your secrets and make herself look better by making you stuck in your shadow. I found my self very surprised when it came to Henry. In the beginning the book he comes off as a guy who only cares about himself and nothing else really matters. By the middle, you see a totally different side of him and I grew to really like him.
I love how there was so much detail without it being boring and seeming like just pointless fill in stuff. And the way each chapter was focused on a different character. With books like these, you find yourself wondering what is going on with other characters and you usually only hear about one. It’s nice to get all sides of the story, especially because it makes it harder to guess what will happen in the end.
The ending both surprised me and didn’t surprise me. I loved the way it ended though, epecially because it opens up so much more for the story to continue. You’re left wanting more and wondering where the story will go and what will happen with all the characters as a result.
This cover though? Wow! There were times when I stopped reading just to look at it. It is absolutely gorgeous! I love the color pink they chose and they way they have the dress set. And the gold writing fit so well. The cover definitely fits the story perfectly.
