After reading Shadow Play and Twilight Siege, I had to read this~
And honestly I thought I would have been better. I liked it, but not as much as the first two books.
Shades of Betrayal is written in a dual POV, focusing on Ashley and Michael I’m soooo happy that Michael got his own book. This is the third book in the series and features some familiar faces and some new faces as well. It covers from before the defeat of Morgan to a few months after and involves Rebecca quite a bit less. I would consider this a stand alone novel, you don’t necessarily have read Shadow Play and Twilight Siege to follow this, but you do get to know the characters more intimately.
Michael is a difficult person to make friends with, he is closed off and not easy to love, although Ashley sees something she wants and no one will get in her way. Michael works for the Hunt, and he doesn’t want Ashley anywhere near it, it’s not safe for her. But someone is out there killing women, and Michael needs to keep Ashley safe.
Ashley, newly formed Fae, wants to discover her powers so she can be more useful. A very strong and assertive main character, she’s having problems pulling her powers, and it’s making her more frustrated by the day. It doesn’t help that the man she is supposed to be training with is so pig-headed. But she can’t deny their attraction and no matter how crabby Michael gets, she’s still drawn to him.
Overall, I enjoyed this book and look forward to another one. I was honestly super shocked at the twist – no spoilers; read it for yourself! All three are worth reading for sure, but read The Fae Games books first! I recommend it!
