When I first heard that Hulk was being rebooted again, I felt a confliction of feelings. On the one hand I was elated at the idea of having Banner back. I was also curious on how they were going to explain away what happened. And lastly a little bit sad, as weird as that may sound. I knew what his series getting rebooted would probably mean for other series. In the end I’m okay with it.
Immortal Hulk has exceeded all of my expectations for the series so far. While we don’t have all of the answers yet, that has clearly been done by intent. The shifting of character dynamics for Hulk and Banner was a brilliant move. It’ll be interesting to see how permanent those changes end up being.
The first issue was a fantastic introduction to the series. This issue focused more on showing us the changes that have occurred, both the more subtle and more dangerous ones. The plot was a standalone one, meant solely to help us see the changes in our two main characters. That being said, it was fantastically written. Multiple scenes gave me the chills and the basic science behind them holds up – almost terrifying so, if you stop and think about it. I can’t wait to see what they do next.
