Bone Crossed by Patricia Briggs

Bone Crossed (Mercy Thompson, #4)

by Patricia Briggs

Car mechanic and sometime shapeshifter Mercy Thompson has learned, the hard way, why her race was almost exterminated. When European vampires immigrated to North America, they found Mercy's people had a hidden talent - for vampire slaying. Unfortunately for Mercy, the queen of the local vampire seethe has discovered her true identity. She's also furious when she learns Mercy has crossed her and killed one of her vampires. Mercy may be protected from direct reprisals by the werewolf pack (and her interesting relationship with its Alpha), but that just means Marsilia will come after Mercy some other way. So Mercy had better prepare to watch her back.

I loved this book. I like how Briggs is conencting the books, how things that seemed resolved in books of the past come back to haunt Mercy, because, as we all know, life isn't that simple and things tend to have consequences. I love how her metnal journey and recovery are shown and written and I love how Adam tries to help her, how he tries to give her the space she needs, even if it goes against his instincts, and I love that sometimes, he fails, because he isn't perfect either.

I liked the plot, I like getting more insight into Mercy and her powers and it's nice to see that her powers as a walker aren't all as useless as she tends to think, without making her the usual overpowered lead. She still isn't "powerfull", but her powers are more usefull than she realised and she is still figuring out more.
