Anyway, Nemesis/Helene was a strong, yet vulnerable woman whose internal struggle was artfully portrayed. I found myself rooting for her throughout the whole story. I never got annoyed with her, which can happen often with me, and that in itself was a great feat accomplished by the author.
Miguel was the perfect dreamy work partner who you love to tease at work and fantasize about having a romantic relationship with. Honest and brave, he's all a girl can ever ask for. Like Helene, his history also haunts him, but unlike some male protagonists who completely fall apart, Miguel pushes forward while simultaneously holding onto his guilt for a past mistake accidentally killing a bystander during a case.
When the two meet, I was expecting utter and complete cheesiness, but I was pleasantly surprised. I recommend this book for fans of team Benson and Stabler from Law and Order: SVU and Tony and Ziva (Tiva) from NCIS.
I received an eARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
