I don’t really read cowboy romances, since it’s not really my thing…I like ranches, farms, and the like but the whole cowboy troupe never really gets to me. Saddled and Spurred was pretty enjoyable despite that and I really liedk seeing Harper prove that she was more than just some beauty queen by holding her own around the ranch. Their banter back and forth was pretty amusing too. But then the book kind of took a weird turn, tried to improve, and then fell off for the last half. I say a weird turn because there is a dream sequence involving a bull mating while the two of them watch, the fact that it was written like it was supposed to be sexy kind of threw me for a loop…but whatever, people have weird dreams. I let it go. The build up to them finally being together was pretty great, and I loved all the tension…but as soon as the sex was introduce it went from a romance story to a erotic novel pretty quickly. The story kind of feel by the way side while the two of them had sex on numerous occasions, and finally picked back up towards the end but by that time I had lost interest.
I have no issues with erotica, I read it often enough…but I do have issues with books that start with a story and lose their train of thought when the hot and heavy stuff finally starts happening. I wanted to know more about Bailey, Harper’s sister, and about Bran’s personality other than he likes being in charge and is super sexy. There wasn’t a ton of talking or soul searching, and it was hard to see the chemistry outside of the bedroom. I just feel like I missed out on a lot.
I probably won’t be continuing this series after this one.
