The beginning of this book was ROUGH with a capital "R." The time jumps were incredibly annoying. One minute the heroine is seventeen, then boom it is years later, and her husband died. At that point she and hero somewhat reconnect, she finds out she is pregnant...and the next chapter...the kid is four years old and the hero has been in their lives for the entire four years as a friend. Considering how short this book was, a little more fleshing out was sorely needed!
That said, after the hot mess that was the first 20% of this book, it did get quite a lot better. Maybe not as emotional as I was expecting, but it was good. Denver was your typical ARR hero. Alpha. Sexy. Sweet. Celibate for four years. I loved his interactions with Lyra. Aubrey was extremely annoying for a good portion of this book, but once she got her head out of her a$$ I warmed up to her. I didn't find it particularly spicy, but we get a couple of sex scenes. There wasn't any OW or OM drama. It had an enjoyable cast of secondary characters, and it was all wrapped up in a few extremely sweet epilogues.
So yea, I ended up enjoying it. But like I mentioned above, the first 20% of this book was a complete mess. The story needed to be fleshed out SO much more than it was. The author threw away a perfect opportunity to tug at our emotions with Gabe's death. She also threw away the chance to create more depth in the relationship between Denver, Aubrey, and even Lyra. Denver was in their lives almost daily for FOUR YEARS, and we don't get ANY pages devoted to that time?? I wanted needed more story to buy into this grand love each had for the other since the age of 17, especially since they never even dated!
