We meet the six who are destined to find the stars and protect them from the evil that seeks them to destroy the world. Roberts brought us such an interesting cast of characters with Bran, Sasha, Annika, Riley, Sawyer and Doyle. Each brings something to the quest but they will need to learn to trust each other. I loved the paranormal aspects and had a delicious time piecing together who, what each character was. We learned about all of them, but spent the most time with Bran and Sasha. Riley is strong, gutsy, incredible smart and has a career I envy. She was my personal favorite of the bunch. Kickass and full of snark. Annika is all sunshine and you cannot help but smile when she is present. Sawyer is my dream man, and Doctor Who fans will soon understand why. Doyle is a warrior and a man of few words, but they held weight.
While her formula is predictable, her stories are always richly detailed and well-paced. We know each book will feature a romance and that one part of the quest will be fulfilled. In Stars of Fortune Bran and Sasha unite. Their romance had a bit of a unique twist. Sasha knew of Bran before without having ever met him, so she came to the relationship with feelings. Despite how quickly their romance developed, it was powerful and felt genuine. I loved the heat and tenderness between them.
It was fun seeing these strangers come together and watching them forge a friendship. I was tickled to discover how unique each of them was and enjoyed learning their histories and secrets. As they battled these secrets were revealed. Each used their strength and taught the others. While they searched and fought battles with evil and mythical beasts Roberts also made time for banter and friendship. I enjoyed time spent around the table enjoying a meal and each other’s companies.. We spend time with Evil, and Roberts' is a master at describing and setting the tone in her stories. The villain is dark and formidable. I enjoyed the sense of foreboding and look forward to completing this quest.
