I thought this was okay for a religious archeological thriller, though the concept is overdone. A genius linguist and professor finds a secret text to save the world while the literal devil chases after him? I haven't read any of Brokaw's other novels, so I can't say if it gets better, but there are definitely more engaging and well written archeological thrillers out there.

I did like the descriptions of famous sites in Istanbul and the Middle East. In the edition I read, there is no "separating fact from fiction" afterword which some other authors include.
