I feel like this issue was more build-up than anything else. But those build-up moments give the action-filled sequences meaning, so I fully support this. Plus it’s been interesting, seeing what’s going on behind the scenes, and just how far down the rabbit hole goes…
In a way, it felt like there were two or three plots being told here. That’s not really surprising, given the series. There are the stories being told as the main plot, but then the stories being explored in the main characters’ comics…it’s a bit convoluted to talk about, sure. But it makes complete sense while being read, and that’s the important part.
As per usual I loved the artwork for this series. I think it’s really cool that they feel comfortable experimenting and switching styles. You don’t really see that anywhere else. I also love that they always come back to the same basic two or three styles – it helps to ground the whole series, while also letting us know when we’re inside of a comic inside a comic, or if we’re just inside a comic.
