Would you ever consider a relationship with a man who proposed to your sister? I know I wouldn’t. But I’m not Anne Middleton.

The Middleton sisters are at it again! This time, middle sister Anne, is finding love where she least expects it. Anne is brash, intelligent, and can’t resist a wager. When looking for the most erotic book in England, she runs into the man who proposed to her sister the year before.

Micheal Grey, the Earl of Thornhill, only proposed to the eldest Middleton sister because he thought he should. After an unexpected run in with Anne, he begins to wonder if his proposal was directed toward the wrong sister. He realizes a wager might be the only way to win her heart.

I love how Maxton mixed courting through letters with the tantalization of the erotic works Anne and Micheal are reading. What fun it would be to reference the pages of that erotic work! And when the two meet face to face? So explosive!

The Wager is a salacious morsel of regency romance!
