Bane by L.J. Shen

Bane (Sinners of Saint, #4)

by L.J. Shen

Roman 'Bane' Protsenko
Naked surfer. Habitual pothead. A con, a liar, a thief and a fraud.
Last I heard, he was extorting the rich and screwing their wives for a living.
Which is why I’m more than a little surprised to find him at my threshold, looking for my friendship, my services, and most puzzling of all—looking humbled.
Thing is, I’m on a boycott. Literally—I cut boys from my life. Permanently.
Problem is, Bane is not a boy, he is all man, and I’m falling, crashing, drowning in his sweet, perfect lies.

Jesse Carter
Hot as hell, cold as ice.
I wasn’t aware of her existence until a fat, juicy deal landed in my lap.
She’s a part of it, a little plaything to kill some time.
She is collateral, a means to an end, and a side-bonus for striking a deal with her oil tycoon stepdad.
More than anything, Jesse Carter is a tough nut to crack.
Little does she know, I have the teeth for it.

**AN ARC WAS GRACIOUSLY PROVIDED FOR AN HONEST REVIEW. ALL OPINIONS ARE MY OWN**

The Sinners of Saints were the first books that I've delved into when I first discovered L.J. Shen. The guys are all major a**holes that you just learn to love and Bane was no different. I have to admit that I was a bit nervous to read Bane's because I was just unsure of his character from what we've seen of him previously. But I absolutely loved him by the end, more layers of himself are peeled away in this one and show us a side I never imagined seeing. And none other than Jesse to bring that side of him to light. Bane was meant to save Jesse, but in the end, they saved each other.

Wow! Their story was nothing like I expected it to be, color me surprised and just in awe of this story. I love that L.J. Shen brought up some extremely important topics that should never be brushed under the rug like it never existed. Everything that Jesse endured as a teenager was absolutely horrible and heartbreaking. Her character drew me in entirely and you slowly see the light come back into her life as you make your way through their story. She has been wronged too many times by people who should have always been on her side and in the worst possible ways, you can't help but wonder how the hell she'd make it out of that. You'll be rooting for her from beginning to end.

Bane never knew what was coming for him when Jesse popped into his life. Even when he accepted the deal from the devil to get a huge advance on his dream, it's pretty clear that his end game was always, Jesse. But of course, secrets do more harm than good. Bane, ultimately surprised me; when it comes to ranking all of the guys in this series, he's definitely the least a**hole-ish. I never expected to see such a vulnerable side of him, but it made him real. His life wasn't all sunshine and rainbows, so he definitely understands Jesse more than people think. I loved that he never tried to make decisions for Jesse, she led the way entirely when it came between the both of them. More than anything he wanted her to find her voice again. And let me tell you when she finally finds it again, it's absolutely stunning. She's a bada**, I would never want to cross paths with her silent yet loud wrath!

One thing I can't wrap my mind around is how in tune these two with each other. They could sit silently in a room together and still be having a full on conversation, it's completely fascinating. These two together are fire and they're matched like nothing I've ever seen before. I loved the scenes where Bane tries so hard to resist her, it built everything up and when that moment came, it was damn near explosive!

Bane was a great addition to the Sinners of Saints series, this book was definitely a lot longer than I thought it would be. And I felt myself veering off here and there. There were a couple twists that I didn't deem necessary, but it definitely added another loop to this emotional roller coaster ride.

A solid read for this already amazing series, L.J. Shen fans will fall in love with Bane and Jesse!
