As I'm writing this, I'm still trying to figure out the words to describe this book. As far as Kylie Scott books go, this one wasn't exactly my favorite of hers, but I didn't hate it either. It was different than what I've read by her and I'm still wrapping my head around the hero.
I've been a bit surprised with myself and the forbidden romances I've been reading. I don't mind reading about age gaps, they don't turn me off like they do other people. I really wanted to love this book, but it wasn't there for me. It definitely had everything to be something great, but it was the hero and the connection between Adele and Peter that just didn't work at all.
I actually loved Adele and really enjoyed her personality. She was a no filter kind of girl and ALWAYS cut to the chase. She wasn't afraid to say her feelings, she always kept it real especially when it came to the extremely closed off Peter.
And then we have Peter, the emotionally stunted man that never says the right thing or well he just doesn't say much at all. I felt like I got zero emotion out of him and as I kept reading, I was waiting for him to open up. Because eventually they do and by the time he does, it was a little sliver that didn't exactly satisfy me. There was an incident that happened between Adele and Peter when she was a teenager, well it was more on Adele's end, but we quickly gather that Peter was mad about it for quite a few years. And every time they tried to talk about it, Peter would grunt and just not say much, but was always the first to state that they needed to talk about it. All in all, he just needed to figure his sh*t out for the entirety of the book.
Even with all of that being said, I didn't hate Peter, but I just wish we got more romance from him and that he opened up more. I feel like I barely got to know him, but learned so much about Adele. I still think there's someone better out there for her, but the heart what it wants in this one. And there's really no changing that.
SO yeah, it wasn't my favorite, but I didn't dislike it.
