We received this book as part of the Dolly Parton's Imagination Library program. Of all the selections we've received so far, this one is our favorite. After being separated from his troop, Little Monkey's fears are tempered by the different monkey species meets. He is introduced to new foods and different ways of doing things. A couple of his newfound skills end up helping him as he tries to make his way home.

A "Meet the Monkeys" section appears on the last couple of pages. It describes a bit more about each type of monkey featured in the book. Since the monkeys are never actually named in the story itself, children can look back through the book and identify each species.

The illustrations are so lovely, and the monkeys look natural and realistic. My daughter laughs at some pages, coos at others. She seems to pick up on Little Monkey's worries and also his sense of curiosity and adventure. This is a fun book to experience with your kids!
