The Hunger Games HB by Suzanne Collins

The Hunger Games HB (The Hunger Games, #1)

by Suzanne Collins

Katniss is a 16-year-old girl living with her mother and younger sister in the poorest district of Panem, the remains of what used be North America. Long ago the districts waged war on the Capitol and were defeated. As part of the surrender terms, each district agreed to send one boy and one girl to appear in an annual televised event called, "The Hunger Games." The terrain, rules, and level of audience participation may change but one thing is constant: kill or be killed. When her sister is chosen by lottery, Katniss steps up to go in her place.

This was the next book that we listened to in the car going back and forth to school. Now that schools out, we probably won't get through our audio books as fast unless we bring them inside to listen to. I've loved this book since it came out. My son had seen the movie but never read the book. It's been great for him to compare how much better all of the books are than the movies. I've been telling him this for years and now he believes me. Hunger Games still gives you that same thrill and sucks you into the arena as you travel with Katniss trying to outwit the other tributes. The reader on this audio version does a great job. We've been pretty lucky to choose audio books that have good readers. I still give this book 5 stars as it's my favorite in the series. We just started Catching Fire a few days ago. I guess it's time for a road trip!
