I’m not generally a huge fan of YA books. The storyline in most of them are carbon copies of each other with variances only in the settings. So when I started this book, I dreaded the idea of déjà vu. Luckily for me, as I began reading, I was pleasantly surprised by the author’s ability to take your standard YA blueprint and change it just enough to create an exciting and unique paranormal world that stands out as wonderfully different.

The three main characters in this book, Grace, Seth and Josh, are in the midst of a love triangle, similar to that of the characters of Twilight. And although I couldn’t help but chuckle at the idea of future readers arguing over whether they’d be on Team Seth or Team Josh, I can honestly say that while similar, their story has a life of its own. Their romance is brilliantly written, and I must give kudos to the author for creating YA characters that don’t make me angry, annoy me, or bore me. Instead, I have found myself loving Grace and feeling just as torn as she does between Seth and Josh.

This book has plenty of twists and turns with moments that will shock you and leave you eagerly anticipating the next chapter of what has started out as a wonderful series. You will get lost in this fantastic world and may even end up feeling incredibly sad that you’ve had to leave… I know I did! Whether you’re a lover of YA, or a scorned former YA reader like me, this book is delightfully fun and exciting. I absolutely cannot wait to find out what the author has in store for us next!
