Justice for Erin by Susan Stoker

Justice for Erin (Badge of Honor: Texas Heroes, #9)

by Susan Stoker

Part-time bartender Erin Gardner is friendly to everyone who bellies up to her bar, including the local law enforcement and firefighters who keep her city safe. That's where she meets game warden Conor Paxton, a regular who asks to join a canoeing trip she's leading for her university day job. When the trip leads to something more, Erin couldn't be happier.
Conor adores Erin, more than enough to help her continue to get over lingering self-esteem issues from her childhood. He's thrilled he's found someone who enjoys spending time in nature as much as he does.
Just when the couple thinks they're on their way to a happily ever after, Erin finds herself in the wrong place at the wrong time. But there's no way she'll just lay down and die. She's woman enough to save herself-and lead her man to her when she's done.

Justice for Erin is the 9th book in the Badge of Honor: Texas Heroes Series. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliffhanger endings.

Justice for Erin is another Stoker book that totally tugged at my emotions in a different way than I expected. Erin had a difficult childhood and her method of dealing with it was by eating. As a comfort eater myself, I get that. I have never been as large as Erin was (450 lbs), but I could understand the feelings. So, she had gastric bypass. Again, I haven't had that surgery but I know enough people who have and the struggles that come with that as well. Food to her has created fear. It makes her feel terror. Conor and his family have a very different relationship with food. In their family, food is love. However, Conor and Erin bond over their love of nature. They become quickly enamored with each other despite Erin's obvious insecurities.

I liked the character growth in Erin. She is able to see and identify her struggles and throughout the story, come to see things in a different way. Its all natural and doesn't feel forced or fake. The climax of the story brings lots of the guys from the series together and its pretty heart pounding! Its like a combo of an episode of Criminal Minds and Man vs. Wild. Plus, there is a donkey. I'm still not sure what the heck is up with that donkey.

Slow building romance, every day issues, complex characters, and a dash of danger made Justice for Erin difficult for me to put down!

  • POV: 3rd

  • Tears: yes

  • Trope: virgin

  • Triggers: none

  • Series/Standalone: stand alone

  • Cliffhanger: no, but a big lead in to the next book that I am now dying for!

  • HEA: yes with a sweet epilogue!
