Loathe at First Sight

ONE OF NPR'S BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR!

“Bursts with humor, heart, and great energy. I loved it! Park is a hilarious new voice in women’s fiction.”—Helen Hoang, author of The Kiss Quotient

This seems to be happening to me quite often lately. I am not sure if it's a case of "maybe it's me", but when I pick up a book banded as a rom-com, I expect romance and a lighter side story. That said, this book did not meet my expectations. However, I still found the story to be an interesting and entertaining portrayal of being a woman in a male dominated field.

Don't get me wrong, there were quite a few funny moments, but when the doxing and the trolling and the threats started taking over the story, it brought more weight than I had anticipated. The real shame, for me, was that the romance was so light, because, gosh darn it, I was a fan of the pairing and wish that had been a bigger part of the story.

Though the story didn't match my expectations, I did enjoy seeing Melanie fight her way through and make a name for herself in the gaming world.
