I was a huge fan of Hard Stick when I read it. It is rarely a book can blow me away and Hard Stick did that. So when I saw that Blocked was up for review on NetGalley, I immediately requested it. I squeed like a little girl when I saw the book on my shelf as approved and waiting to be downloaded. I couldn’t wait to read it but at the same time, I was nervous. Usually, when I love a book that is the first book in a series, the second one never lives up to my internal hype.

Blocked exceeded my expectations. While I didn’t love it as much as Hard Stick, I enjoyed reading about Callie, Dallas, and their romance. I enjoyed that Charlotte, NC was again the backdrop for a great hockey romance. I enjoyed the humor that was peppered throughout the book. I was laughing my butt off while reading. A book that can make you laugh is a book that you need to keep.

There were parts of Blocked that I didn’t like. I thought that Callie’s brother, Justin, was a grade A idiot with anger issues. He got on my nerves, big time. While I could understand why he was being so protective of Callie, I kind of wanted to tell him “She’s 28, brah. Let her make her own decisions.”Callie had to hide that she was dating Dallas because of how Justin would react. Which made me do an internal “Ugh“.

Dallas was a manwhore. No beating around the bush. He liked the ladies and they liked him back. Not only that, he was going to be on a Bachelor-like show called Rich and Single. Callie was well aware of his reputation. She was there when he got his head beat in by the boyfriend of a girl he was going to screw. Even I was a little surprised when he stopped his manwhore ways and decided to try to settle down with Callie. Only that things can never go as planned and in this case, everything went sideways….fast.

While Callie was a sweetheart and I liked her, she was a tad immature. When the going got tough for her and Dallas, what does she do? She refuses to listen to Dallas’s side of the story. She thinks the worst….even though he has done nothing to prove otherwise. Other than that, I thought she was sweet and had a great sense of humor. The whole Dallas skating around in a hot pink bikini because she lost a bet scene in the book cracked me up.

The sex scenes between Callie and Dallas were hot. They were like bunnies and did it everywhere. My favorite sex scene was the pool one. I am not into sex in the water but this one almost made me rethink my stance on it.

The end of the book was great. I ugly cried during it because it was perfect. The epilogue was even better. I am hoping that Maddox and Lacey’s story is the next one because I want to know the secret that Lacey has.

My Summary of Blocked: 4 Stars

Blocked is the great 2nd book in the Breakaway series. Not falling to the 2nd book curse, Blocked is a fun, sensual read. This will be on my keeper shelf. It has fleshed out characters, a great plotline, and in-depth world building.
