Made To Be Broken by Kelley Armstrong

Made To Be Broken (Nadia Stafford, #2)

by Kelley Armstrong

'Original, dark, and gritty, with enough humanity to keep you caring about its antiheroes and enough suspense to keep you turning the pages.' - CodyMcFadyen, author of Shadow Man

To the outside world Nadia Stafford is a smart, good-looking, law-abiding citizen. Well, two out of three's not bad...

An ex-cop with a legal code all her own, Nadia has a secret life as a world-class assassin. She works only for one New York crime family, who pay her handsomely to bump off traitors. But when a troubled teenager and her baby vanish in the woods near her home, Nadia's old detective instincts - and the memory of a past loss - compel her to investigate.

With her enigmatic mentor Jack to support her, Nadia unearths sinister clues that point to an increasingly dark and deadly mystery. As her obsession over the case deepens, Nadia realises that the only way she can right the wrongs of the present is to face her own painful ghosts - or die trying. And so she sets off on the trail of a young woman no one else cares about - and a killer who is bound to strike again...

It’s probably completely unfair of me to review anything by Kelley Armstrong. Everything she writes get 5+ stars. I just can’t help it! She’s just such a good writer! This book is no exception.

I liked that the mystery or case in this book wasn’t random like a lot of crime books. Something happens that hits close to home and Nadia takes it upon herself to do something about it. I thought the case was kind of different too. Someone selling babies on the black market? What a cool idea. Not literally of course. I like how dark this book can get, it’s way different from anything else I’ve read.

I’m really concerned about the love triangle the author has going on. It’s almost an obvious pick but with Kelley Armstrong I’ve learned not to trust anything so I’m really excited to see what happens in book three. Nadia is a fantastic main character. I love that she’s not a typical hit woman that likes to kill for fun. She knows she’s good at it and needs the money. Plus she only kills bad people. I like how she questions if even that is a good idea. She’s just a really strong character. Of the two men Jack is my favorite. Normally I’d go for the character like Quinn but Jack is just so random and entertaining.

Anyways just read this book. Seriously.
