I received an ARC from NetGalley.

I didn't realize that this one was going to focus on Kyros rather than Jax and Sasha, but when I did find out, I was a little relieved. As much as I'd love to continue their story, it's been over a year since I read it, so a fresh couple definitely helped me stay focused. I really appreciated the refresher on all of the mythology at the beginning of the book, although recent readers of the first book will probably want to skim it. However, it does make it possible to pick this one up without having read the first and not be totally confused.

I do think i enjoyed this one more than the first. I liked how it had this almost political thriller feel to it, since Jordan is the president's daughter, and the Mephisto boys believe their estranged brother, Eryx is trying to get Mr.President to pledge his soul to him in order to take over the country. Of course there's still the paranormal conflicts, mainly that Jordan has no clue she's Anabo until Key rescues her.

I also appreciated that there was no instalove, lust sure, but definitely not love. Jordan actually has a brain, and uses it to stay alive and protect those around her rather than simply pining after Key. In fact, she tells him she doesn't want him in the beginning, and she has a boyfriend! It was refreshing, and I always love a good enemies to lovers story. Although, they're not technically enemies, but I'm sure you get my point!

While I did enjoy The Mephisto Kiss, it suffers from the same repetitiveness as the first book. I felt myself being super frustrated with Jordan and Key as they had this constant back and forth about the same thing over and over for the first 2/3 of the book. But then in the last third, things change and I found myself more hooked than I had been. I just wish the ending hadn't been so rushed.
