by Sara Holland

HER OLDEST FRIEND
HER GREATEST ENEMY

Jules Ember was raised hearing legends of the ancient magic of the wicked Alchemist and the good Sorceress. But she has just learned the truth: She is the Alchemist, and Caro—a woman who single-handedly murdered the Queen and Jules’s first love, Roan, in cold blood—is the Sorceress.

The whole kingdom believes that Jules is responsible for the murders, and a hefty bounty has been placed on her head. And Caro is intent on destroying Jules, who stole her heart twelve lifetimes ago. Now Jules must piece together the stories of her past lives to save the person who has captured her heart in this one.

I’m a little on the fans whether it is 1 or 2 stars, so I will say 1.5. I absolutely loved Everless (5⭐️), but this sequel was just a major let down. The story was ridiculously boring and dragging, and nothing really happened. Yes, we’ve got to see a lot of Sempera, but there was not much action and the stories of Jules her past were not really interesting. The plot consisted of travelling like 95% of the time and it picks up some speed close to the end. However, that speed was very short lived and rushed. The book would have been more interesting whenever One of the characters was about to lose time, because the whole concept was destroyed in this book. Time is never used as a currency like it is in Everless. That’s what made Everless such an unique and charming book. I think I will forget about the existence of Evermore altogether.
