Breathless by Anne Stuart

Breathless (The House of Rohan, #3)

by Anne Stuart

A damaged beauty. The cruellest beast.

Ruined beyond repair, and shunned by London society, lovely Miranda Rohan rebelliously embraces the freedom of having nothing left to lose. However, this dangerous course throws her under the power of the darkly enigmatic Lucien de Malheur – known to many as the Scorpion.

Seeking to destroy the Rohans, Lucien traps Miranda in a marriage she thinks is based on friendship but instead is rooted in vengeance. Yet when she realises the truth their enmity fuels a shocking passion – and perhaps even more…

Okay, yep. More Anne Stuart. This is fun, and gothic, and it’s catnip to me when characters say one thing and so clearly mean another. She walked the story right up to the edge in ways that surprised me, and the B story is as good as the A story. If you’ve got the hero and heroine trying to kill each other within 10 pages of the ending, that is my kind of book.
