Loving someone was traumatizing. You never knew what would happen to them out there in the world. Everything precious was also vulnerable."

Sam and Penny meet at a time in their lives where they both need a friend to talk to as their lives are changing drastically.

Penny has moved to college and away from her mom who she doesn’t get along with. She’s now doing everything she can to avoid her mom’s calls and trying to restart her life at college while also becoming sort of a hermit.
Sam is working and living at a coffee shop while also dealing with something from his past that has popped up back again.

Their friendship starts by chance and evolves through them talking through texting the most random things to each other.

Overall I liked this book. Sam and Penny’s relationship mostly being through text messages was a format I enjoy and showed how friendships can grow in different ways. Both of there lives are very different, but they’re supportive of each other while also being good distractions from the bad things that were happening in them. I loved seeing how their friendship grew over the time of this book and how they both changed throughout this book. Sams changing his life slowly and bettering himself after being in some not so great situations, and seeing the struggles he faced and how there were so many ups and downs made it very realistic. Penny’s college life was nice to see as it seemed more realistic as well when it came to her juggling assignments and figuring out life on her own.

One of my favorite parts of this book and this friendship was towards the end when they had both faced some pretty tough things and how they came together and were just there for each other no questions asked. It was just nice to see that in a book without any pressure to be in a romantic relationship.

If you know of any more books that focus on college and friendship please let me know what they are.
