I have loved this series since I read the free prequel short story, A Stroke of Dumb Luck. I was so happy when Ms. Walker decided to continue with this series under a different pen name. This is a series that you must read the books in order, though the prequel is an added treasure, not a must read.

Book three starts off pretty much where book two leaves us, Kit is hiding at Wolf Haven trying to recover mentally from her torture from the vampire Jude in Canada. Kit considers herself completely broken and she has no desire to see herself fixed. She feels that with the connection between her and her sword broken, she is worthless. She constantly hears voices in her head telling her how worthless she is, voices from Jude and her Grandmother.

TJ being the person, or wolf, that she is, knows that Kit needs time and gives her time, but also knows that Kit cannot spend the rest of her life working at the bar. She sends Kit on what should be a pretty easy job of finding a cat that is probably the father of a witch girl's unborn baby. As with anything with Kit, it isn't that easy. The case takes a very dangerous turn, but once again, Kit has extremely powerful friends that won't let her face it on her own.

I don't want to say too much more about the plot, so as not to spoil anything.

Damon and the cats all have a part to play. We get to see some time with him, Sam, Chang and Doyle. We get to learn a ton about Doyle, and I just love this kid. I don't think there is anyone more loyal to Kit that he is. Kit also takes a visit to the witches, where she learns a lot about her "client". Justin is also a great friend, who stands behind Kit once again. We learn a lot about this past. The more I learn about Justin, the more I like him.

As I've come to expect with stories from Ms. Daniels, this story isn't without heartbreak and lose. We see Kit grow as a person and we see that she is healing, but not easily. We do see that there is hope in the future for her. Every time I finish a book in this series, I'm counting the days until the next book comes out.
