Talk about timing: reading this as the Red Sox won the World Series in 2018. I admit, I was skeptical, but Duchovny’s got chops. It’s got some first-novel stuff, and doesn’t break new ground, but he knows his baseball and he knows his books. There were plenty of parts that had me laughing out loud. And right when I wanted baseball, here was October ’78 alongside October ’18.
