I received an ARC through NetGalley.

Secrets for Seducing a Royal Bodyguard was disappointing. I normally find Historical Romantic Suspense a lot of fun, but this one was just a bore. It beings with Aden on a rescue mission. Vivien was just kidnapped and is being held in a smugglers' cave. The rescue goes off without a hitch, but there's still the matter of catching whoever took her. Aden is now on personal bodyguard duty as he keeps a very close eye on Vivien. Meanwhile, Vivien is being relentlessly pursued by a prince of Russia whom she absolutely detests. To make matters worse her family is close to ruin and the awful Prince Ivan the Terrible may be the only one to save them.

Even though there's a lot going on plot-wise, nothing much happens for most of Secrets for Seducing a Royal Bodyguard. I was bored from the very beginning, and felt like I was just waiting for the story to pick up. About halfway in a few interesting things happen such as Vivien going out in disguise hoping that her gambling luck is better than her brother's. Also, the romance finally starts up a bit. Other than that though, it's a quite dull read.

The romance was pretty uninspired. Aden doesn't want to get close to anyone because of his dangerous career, but he's inexplicably drawn to Vivien. Vivien is a respectably sought after young woman, but she's had no interest in her suitors and was heading for spinsterhood. These two get caught up in passion while hiding from her kidnappers, but I wasn't into it. Of course, something has to happen to get the awful prince back into the picture, and it does. However, I didn't find this plot believable. The prince had to have been criminally insane rather than just persistent.

In the end, I didn't quite enjoy Secrets for Seducing a Royal Bodyguard. The plot and romance were both lacking, but it does have its moments. My favorite scene involved a couple of little old ladies at the spa. It was quite funny and welcome to lighten the drab mood. Overall though, not something I'd recommend to Historical Romance fans.
