Sweet, Sexy Heart by Melissa Foster

Sweet, Sexy Heart (Bradens & Montgomerys (Pleasant Hill - Oak Falls), #8)

by Melissa Foster

Amber Montgomery is perfectly happy with her quiet life, running her bookstore, taking long walks with Reno, her Labrador retriever seizure dog, and spending time with her close-knit family. She’s never needed thrills the way some of her sisters have. In an effort to control her epilepsy, she tries to avoid anything that creates too much excitement or stress—including relationships. When Amber hosts a book signing for famed-athlete-turned-author Dash Pennington, he’s everything she’s spent her life avoiding: loud, aggressive, and far too handsome, as proven by the hordes of women who surround him everywhere he goes. Amber can’t ignore the sparks flying between her and Dash, but this is a no-brainer for her: Ignore their chemistry and hold her breath until he leaves town.

Dash Pennington has spent his life running. Running the ball in for a touchdown, running from town to town to appease his public relations reps, and running into the arms of too many women to count. He’s also an expert at protecting—his reputation, his sisters, and lately, his sanity. But he’s ready to make a change, only Dash is way out of his league. He has no idea how to settle down. When he comes to the sleepy little town of Oak Falls, Virginia, and witnesses the most beautiful woman he’s ever seen living the life he craves, she refuses to have anything to do with him. But now that Dash has found the one thing he doesn’t want to run from, he’ll stop at nothing to win her over.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Sweet, Sexy Heart, as the name suggests, was sweet, sexy and full of heart. In her note to readers, Foster stated that Dash Pennington may yet be her most swoon worthy hero and I definitely have to agree with her. I will even go further and say Sweet, Sexy Heart may be one of the best books I have for the year. I had fun returning to Oak Falls.

Amber intrigued me from the moment of her introduction in the series. She is a sweetheart, kind and loved by all she came in contact with. However, having to deal with epilepsy led to her placing limitations on her life. Spontaneity did not feature in her world. To keep the seizures in check, she had to avoid overly stressful situations and keep her emotions under control. Although she finds pleasure in operating her own bookstore and spending time with her family and service dog, she dreams of one day finding the man of her dreams; someone who like her lived a sedate life. Enters Dash Pennington, however, he was unlike anyone she was looking for.

Dash  a retired football player turned motivational speaker and author, is looking to promote his book in several bookstores throughout the country. Amber’s bookstore would be his first stop. Falling in love was the furthest thing from Dash’s mind. However, when he laid eyes on Amber, he knew he found his everlasting love. If only he could convince her they were meant for each other.

When Dash was first introduced, he exuded an arrogant vibe. However, as his layers started peeling away, what came to light was a confident man who was all heart. He knew what he wanted and had no qualms about pursuing his goals and with Amber; he pulled out all the stops. For someone who claimed to know nothing about romance, he had it oozing from his pores. The defining moment for me was his reaction when she had a seizure. I loved him before, but at this point I fell in love with him all over again. That moment had me reaching for tissues.

Dash and Amber shared sweet moments, but their intimate times burned up the pages. At one point  thought Amber would have developed a seizure during this time. Thank goodness that was not the case.

I enjoyed the camaraderie between the characters. It was a treat to see how protective  everyone was towards Amber, but what I  most was watching her out of her shell and embracing all the things she missed out on while growing up.

Conclusion/Recommendation

To conclude Sweet Sexy, Heart is a beautiful, heartwarming story of unconditional love. Fans of steamy romance set in a small town will love this latest offering from the queen of sexy and heartwarming stories. This review was originally posted on Totally Addicted to Reading
