Lana's success with her Special Ops assignment in Graveyard Shift has her moving up from low-risk harvesting and back to school. In addition to the mentoring course that Grim enrolled her in, Josie got Lana to take another course at the academy and Cindy Morningstar has encouraged Lana to take a course in Demon Defense from Beelzebub himself (Bub for short) in exchange for council votes in her favor.
This book focuses on politics, bribery, and education and it sets the stage for a lot of the remainder of the series. While the book lacked an editor (pick me! pick me!), I found the story and world engaging enough to not be completely turned off by it. It is a fast paced and quick read, engaging from start to finish. While not as good as its predecessor, it is still an enjoyable read!
