Second chance romances are my absolute favorite trope to read about. From the first couple of chapters, I was completely sucked in as we get to know Thea and Ramsey from their kid days. However, I wasn't expecting to be stuck in the past for that long and that's what really pulled me away from the book. I loved how we got to see how things went from friends to lovers. But it left a little bit of room for development in the present.
Thea was a fighter through and through, she kept her promises and would wait forever if it meant she'd have another chance with Ramsey. The need that Ramsey had to keep Thea at a distance wasn't strong enough for me. Some crazy truths are dropped at the end and it almost felt like Thea was a bit too forgiving of it all. To me, it almost seemed like things were quickly put as "water under the bridge".
I truly did enjoy Release, but it didn't quite pack the punch like other books I've read by Aly.
