You know what? It's really hard for me to turn down an Aly Martinez book, she really pulls you in with her emotional stories. AND there's always some kind of crazy twist. Release, compared to her other books, although I enjoyed it and devoured every word, it kind of fell short for me.

Second chance romances are my absolute favorite trope to read about. From the first couple of chapters, I was completely sucked in as we get to know Thea and Ramsey from their kid days. However, I wasn't expecting to be stuck in the past for that long and that's what really pulled me away from the book. I loved how we got to see how things went from friends to lovers. But it left a little bit of room for development in the present.

Thea was a fighter through and through, she kept her promises and would wait forever if it meant she'd have another chance with Ramsey. The need  that Ramsey had to keep Thea at a distance wasn't strong enough for me. Some crazy truths are dropped at the end and it almost felt like Thea was a bit too forgiving of it all. To me, it almost seemed like things were quickly put as "water under the bridge".

I truly did enjoy Release, but it didn't quite pack the punch like other books I've read by Aly.
