This is the first Animal Bites book that my family has read and it was a very enjoyable read. I set my 8 year old daughter up with the book and my 3 year old daughter cuddled in and I watched over and my big girl read to my little girl. I had to help with some of the animal's exact names, such as Holstein cow and Percheron horses. But other than that my 8 year old had no problem reading this and it held the attention of both my girls.
Since reading I have been informed that we need to have a Scottish Highland Cow as a pet. ("Their long hair is so cute, Mommy!"), that while living on a farm would be really cool my 8 year old is not down for all the hard work, there are WAY more breeds of chickens than I ever realized and that my 3 year old insisted that every type of horse she saw was "Mine!".
My oldest daughter seems to have a natural aversion to education. She is all for something until she realizes that it's teaching her something, then she shuts down. But not once did she seem bored by this book. The bite size chunks of information combined with the beautiful color pictures of the animals made this book a perfect balance that even she could enjoy without feeling like it was preachy and boring.
I was very happy with this book and really look forward to reading others from the animal bites series with my kids.
