In The Mystery at Lilac Inn Nancy is visiting her friend Emily Crandell, owner of Lilac Inn. An inn which has some mysterious obstacles and also claimed to be haunted. Things only get more interesting after Emily's inherited diamond collection disappears after a timely black out. Missing diamonds is not Nancy's only concern as she has had her identity stolen with her impersonator going on a spending spree. Could the finding of the diamonds also lead to Nancy's identity theft?

The Mystery at Lilac Inn was a very clever book. The suspects go way outside of the inn to actors who are only subtly mentioned before the crime, making for a very intriguing read. Nancy really begins to develop and finds and even balance character. She becomes more resourceful in her escapes (because I have quickly learned that she gets kidnapped in each novel's climax) Nancy also possess more common sense, putting together clues and tips much faster and in a calculated and timely manner.
