This is the first book I've read by this author and frankly, it's the cover that got me.  Question is- did the cover live up to my expectations?  I'd have to say that yes, it did.  Alyssa and Hunt's history as childhood friends created a solid basis for a relationship between the two of them.  Unfortunately, Hunt simply does not feel worthy of Alyssa's love and affection.

Hunter is a former sniper and truly feels the weight of his actions.  While he feels no regret about what he did, he's been led to believe that he is nothing more than a cold-blooded killer.  Throw in an ex-girlfriend that basically said that out loud to him after an incident at a mall and well, that screwed up his head even more.

Alyssa's life is falling apart and the one man she feels she can trust is Hunter.  Her "fiance" is a complete and utter dirtbag and Alyssa has been working her ass off to benefit everyone else around her.  After her mother died, she was left in the "care" of her stepfather and let's face it, he is an idiot.  Alyssa has been bearing the weight of being the daughter of a famous actress that died tragically.  Let's throw in a child she gave up for adoption that her crazy fiance is now threatening and you've got nice romantic suspense plot.

The love story between Hunt and Alyssa was equal parts sexy and sweet.  Alyssa has had a massive crush on Hunt most of her adolescent life and now is her chance to get nekkid with him. Personally, I always like a storyline where the MCs have a history with each other and then the relationship turns into more- the good old Friends to Lovers trope.   And let's not skate lightly over the fact that Hunt is not afraid to tell Alyssa exactly what he is thinking and what he'd like to do to her.
He laid his hand on her face and dragged his thumb over her lips. "I wanted to kiss you until you woke, slow and soft, your body heating as I tasted you.  You'd have let me do that, wouldn't you?"

"Yes."

I enjoyed this one by Ms. Apodaca and while I have not read the two books before it, I did not feel lost.  In fact, I plan to read more on the series which I already have on my Kindle!
