Yep, I get it, they’re broken.
Kind of spoilerish...rantish...proceed with caution.
I started Fearless In Love with high hopes and it was all good for awhile. The couple were attracted to each other, the angst level was pretty low and the communication between them was OK. Unfortunately, Fearless In Love was like the two books before it. Yes, I get that the Maverick boys survived a dodgy past, conquered the world and become billionaires, but geez, why are they such scaredy cats. This one really takes the cake, though. The heroine has had it just as rough as the hero, but she was the fearless one. Sorry, but I prefer it when the man is the fearless one. Look, the chick can be fearless too, but not when she has to take all the hits because he's too scared to fall in love.
Ari has been hired as a nanny to the very cute Noah who is Matt’s five-year-old son. Ari grew up in the foster system because her mum died of an overdose and her older brother was stationed overseas in the army and couldn’t be contacted or found. Her time in the foster system has made her tougher than any child should have to be. She has worked bloody hard to get an education and support herself. When she lands the job, she is excited for the opportunity to work with Noah but Ari also can't wait to spend more time with Matt as she has a huge crush on him. Funny thing is, he is struggling BIG TIME fighting his feeling for her. Matt has had difficulty finding a suitable nanny for Noah because of his very high standards. With Ari being such a fantastic nanny, there is no way he wants to jeopardise the situation by following through on his lust for her.
Matt’s ex (who he never married) Irene, is a BAD mother. She spends very little time with Noah and has no hesitations in dropping into her son's world, shaking it up, then rushing on to bigger and better things. Noah is hurt and feels unloved. Irene makes Noah think that Matt is to blame for it all. She flitters in with expensive and dangerous present's, and can’t understand why firecrackers are such a dangerous thing to give to a 5-year-old. I hated that Matt lets her do it. He has sole custody it was his responsibility to protect him from that kind of hurt.
I skimmed the sex scenes. I do not normally do that, but they were just a little too descriptive and not in a raunchy way. They were also a little corny. Seriously, for someone who supposedly was so scared of LOVE, it drove me BONKERS that he kept saying to Ari – I want to love you, when he was initiating sex. You could bloody see how she was getting mixed signals. Which then leads me to…she tells him first that she loves him…I HATE THAT. Ari then goes on to tell him it’s OK not say it back (which it’s BLOODY NOT, in my books) and that she’s OK that he wants to keep her a secret. Geez, shake this chick, someone. She’s already had a rough trot and now she’s putting up with him being a douchewaffle.
I’m going to stop my complaining now, but there were a few more niggles I had which made me rate this one lower. I will say that I think this might be the last book I can handle in this series…UNLESS…we can actually get one of these guys to MAN THE F UP!! You’ve got 3 brothers now who have majorly stuffed up and still managed to get the girl…DON’T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKES THESE KNUCKLEHEADS MADE.
Shake it off Sassy…
It wasn’t all doom and gloom. Noah is a cutie who has spent too many years being wrapped in cotton. I loved that by then end we get to see Matt loosen the reigns a little. It was good to catch up with the other guys and their ladies and it was especially good to catch up with Jeremy, Harper's brother. There was really only a small portion of the book that had me rolling my eyes, slapping my forehead and mumbling and grumbling under my breath. Don’t just take my word for it because I’ve seen some very happy campers saying great things about Fearless In Love. It’s probably just me.
