Liz had been disowned by her parents. DISOWNED!! If you've read Focus on Love, you'll know that it wasn't because she was a terrible daughter, she just couldn't do what her dad was asking of her. If you haven't read it, hurry and read it and then come back and get this one to read.
I really liked Ryan in Focus on Love. In A Picture Perfect Christmas, he was pretty much wonderful. Out of his love for Liz, he risked rejection and derision but didn't even consider his own feelings in the matter. Though they were not married yet, he knew that he needed to love her as Christ loved the church, that kind of sacrificial, other-seeking love and aspired to that goal.
This was a great conclusion to Ryan and Liz's romance. It touched my heart and I hope it will touch yours as well.
(You probably could enjoy this as a stand-alone, but I do highly recommend you read Focus on Love first so you get the full story.
