Otter-the irrepressible picture book character sure to be adored by fans of Llama Llama-takes a trip to visit sea friends and meet all the animals that live in the ocean. Otter: Hello, Sea Friends! is a My First I Can Read book, which means it's perfect for shared reading with a child. Read about more of Otter's adventures in I Am Otter, Otter in Space, Otter Loves Halloween!, Otter: Oh No, Bath Time!, Otter: The Best Job Ever!, and Otter Goes to School.

Honestly, the picture books are more creative. These types of early reader books are purposely simplistic and sometimes repetitive so kids can start reading them on their own. They also tend to have simpler plot lines; I wouldn't say Hello, Sea Friends really has any conflict or narrative arc. However, this is a characteristic of the genre/reading level, so not something I'm going to fault the author for. (I am, after all, an adult reading these and not a child.) It's good for what it is, a cute story with wonderful artwork. I'll continue to read all of Otter's adventures with pleasure.
