There’s magic in her music…

Every so often I need a hit…a high…a shot of short, intense and heart-pounding ROMANCE. The more books I read, the more I find myself needing to mix up my sub-genres. I NEED to step away from reality into another world where dark fights light, magic hits you with a blink of the eye and love conquers all. I need my fix of paranormal romance and Donna Grant gives it to me in a great little package.

There’s a trick to getting a short story right. Obviously, you must get to your point quicker so that you get a full story in a little package. It helps to know your characters well enough to be satisfied, so here is where the short-story connected series works well. You know your characters, or at least one of the characters, from previous instalments. The world or place the story is set in is somewhat familiar. There’s generally an underlying plot that you’re desperate to get to the bottom of that connects each instalment. A successful short story gives you everything you want in a little package. Well, that’s what I think.

Donna Grant does this extremely well. The Reapers series has left me satisfied with each instalment and desperate for more. As I get to know each Reaper, I find myself heartbroken to read of how they got to the position, and desperate to see them find happiness…or a Reaper kind of happiness. I mean honestly, how happy can you be forking out Death’s justice? It’s a hard job, but someone’s got to do it.

In Dark Alpha’s Hunger we get to know Eoghan. His name has been on all of the Reaper’s minds for a wee while as he’d disappeared. Turns out, a big blob of bad held him prisoner behind some magical rock and it takes a halfling who plays a good jig to get him out. Well, that’s the short and very badly described condensed version. The actual story is so much better, trust me…not my description.

If you’re looking for a series with a bit of grit and lots of heart, like your heroes to fall hard and fast and want it to be full of action and adventure, you can’t go wrong with the Reapers. The Reapers are connected to Donna’s other series that include Dragons, Fae and other magical beings. I highly recommend.
