A hit-or-miss collection of short stories, more on the "miss" side than "hit." Each of the five contributing authors chose a theme and wrote 2-3 stories around it. The only author who had a near-perfect run was Gary Braunbeck, whose three rather touching stories were like nesting dolls, each one starring a character briefly glimpsed in the one before it. On the "miss" side, Deborah Leblanc seems to have a strange obsession with obese-women-as-villains, and I really could have lived a fulfilling life without having read Hank Schwaeble's X-rated hooker-and-embalmed-corpse scene.
