After the heart-pounding ending of Graves of Wraith, the first book things have quieted down a little or perhaps not. Regent is trying to translate an old text he discovered under the church, John is discovering some additional angelic abilities and Jess is struggling with her new found sibling.

It isn’t long before their friends in the Paris police department pull them in to assist with a serial killer loose in the tunnels. A secret society and a vampire civil war create danger, fuel hatred and pull Jess, John and Regent into their power struggle.

I struggle a little with Jess and her “I am evil” persona. She battles and kills vampires who harm humans or disrupt the delicate balance. Perhaps its an inner struggle because she hates vampires but I think it’s time she suck it up and get on with it. LOL Thankfully these “woah is me” moments of self loathing are few and far between in an otherwise suspenseful and engaging plot.

The Ravens and paintings in the Louvre I loved and the thread regarding the strange textbook and who it was written by had me enthralled. I could read a whole series on the things Regent, the Catholic Priest, and Samson the scientist were working on.

The evil sister and their history really intrigues me as do the Watchers. I hope we get answers in the final book of this trilogy. While threads are concluded, we still have active ARC threads and I am excited for the next book. Something a child says sets the stage for the next book in the City of Bones.
