One of the main things I loved about this book is that romance took a backseat…Yes, that is right! I said it! In A little Hotel in Cornwall romance is second fiddle! This story is Maisie’s story, or Marjorie depending on who you ask. It is about Maisie finding herself and fighting for her dream of becoming an author. My only grumble, it was over before I knew it – Yes I know it’s a novella, but as I found my stride I was left wanting to know what happens next in Cornwall!

Maisie was lovely, she took hold of an opportunity in front of her and ran with it, with some disastrous (but funny) outcomes. A bicycle accident brought her face to face with Sidney and his dogs. I have my suspicions to what Sidney is hiding and I look forward to finding out if I am right! Their friendship, however, was cute and endearing. You do begin to like all the characters, even the fearsome Mr Trelawney! They are going to fond friends of yours for sure!

Maisie wants to be a writer but doesn’t quite make the cut to get sponsorship in NYC, so she contacts her all-time favourite author asking if he would mentor her, who in turn politely turns her down. Not one to go on without a fight, flies over and comes to most breathtaking hotel and starts her investigation to find Alistair Davies!

This is a perfect, snappy novella to read in the sun, maybe on the beach, maybe one in Cornwall, to enjoy it to fullest. You do spend your time hoping that Maisie’s escapades pay off in her favour even enduring the amazing ball with some quite frankly awful people!

Whilst I wait for the next book, I am going to Cornwall in the summer, maybe I will have to help Maisie discover Alistair whilst I roam the luxurious beaches.
